Dashboard
The Dashboard panel holds the address WallAwake shows and what the app does with the website behind it. To get there, open the WallAwake menu, tap Open settings and choose Dashboard.
Start URL
Enter the full address of your dashboard, including http:// or https:// and a port number if needed. For example, a local Home Assistant address might be http://192.168.1.20:8123. Use your own server address. If you leave out the protocol, WallAwake adds https://. If that does not work for a local address, the app tries http:// once.
- HTTPS addresses may be local or public. WallAwake checks the website's security certificate and blocks the page if the certificate cannot be trusted.
- HTTP is unencrypted. A private or loopback IP address, or a name ending in
.local,.lan,.home.arpaor.internal, can be saved after you accept the HTTP warning. For other hostnames, such asmijnserverorexample.com, the app cannot determine whether the destination is local, so you must accept a stronger warning. Public IP addresses are refused, including alternative numeric spellings of the same address. - An address with a user name and password in it (
http://user:password@host/) is refused. Remove them: WallAwake stores the start URL unencrypted on this tablet.
Stay on the dashboard's site
This switch is on by default and blocks navigation to other sites. If your dashboard uses an external sign-in provider, you may need to turn it off. Doing so does not guarantee that every sign-in method will work.
WallAwake only opens ordinary web pages. Downloads and choosing files are turned off, extra windows are blocked, and requests for camera, microphone or location access are blocked. An address that Safe Browsing reports as unsafe is blocked as well, and an unencrypted link is blocked unless it is the saved start address.
Website data
WallAwake stores the cookies and data of the website it shows. A login that the website remembers, for example with a Remember me option, stays active after a restart. How long that lasts is up to the website. A login that only lasts for one session does not: after the app or the tablet restarts, the website asks you to sign in again.
Clear website data signs you out of the website and removes its cookies, stored data and cached files, after you confirm. Your WallAwake settings stay as they are. This takes effect immediately.
If you change the start URL to a different website, WallAwake asks Clear the previous website's data? You can choose Clear it or Keep it. The new address is saved either way.
If a website uses HTTP authentication, WallAwake shows its own Sign in required dialog. These credentials remain in memory only while the app process is running. They are not saved with website cookies.
When the page cannot be reached
If the page cannot be loaded, WallAwake shows Can't reach this page with the reason, for example that no network connection was found, the address could not be found, the connection was refused or it timed out. The app keeps trying automatically, and you can tap Try again to try right now. The screen also reminds you how to open the menu, so you can check the start URL in the settings.
If the security certificate of the site cannot be trusted, for example because it has expired or belongs to a different address, WallAwake shows Secure connection blocked and does not open the page. The app never continues past a certificate error.
Changes on this panel are stored when you tap Save settings, except Clear website data, which acts immediately.
