Controls

The Controls panel is about the ways to open the WallAwake menu while the dashboard is on screen. To get there, open the menu, tap Open settings and choose Controls.

Ways to open the menu

  • Swipe. Swipe left with one finger from the right half of the screen. The switch Open with a swipe from the right half is on by default.
  • Handle. Tap the handle at the edge of the screen. The switch Show the handle is on by default.
  • Long press. Press and hold the top-right corner. This option remains available when the swipe and handle are both turned off.
  • Accessibility button. When an Android accessibility service such as TalkBack is active, a button appears in the top-left corner to open the menu.

Until you have opened the menu once, the dashboard shows a tip that explains how to open it.

The handle

Handle position offers Left, Right, Top and Bottom. By default the handle sits halfway down the left edge. You can also press and hold the handle and drag it to any edge. The chosen position is saved and survives a restart.

Choose the Dark or Light preset, or set separate colors for Glyph, Fill and Border. Dark is the default. The Preview shows the handle against a light and a dark background, so you can check whether it is easy to see.

The WallAwake menu has four actions:

  • Go to start URL takes you back to your start address.
  • Reload page loads the page again.
  • Open settings opens the settings.
  • Exit WallAwake closes the app.

If you set a PIN, WallAwake asks for it before the settings open or the app is closed. See Device & security.

Changes on this panel are stored when you tap Save settings, except moving the handle by dragging it, which is saved right away.
